Efflorescence, the powdery scum that oft-appears on brick walls and columns, tends to make persistent and unwanted appearances.

It is the side effect of a combination of conditions namely:

  • Water-soluble salts
  • Moisture in the wall
  • Path for the salt-laden moisture to travel to the exterior of the brick
  • Water evaporates, leaving the salts behind crystallized onto the surface

While no cure exists for this harmless, yet visually displeasing issue, steps can be taken to restore the appearance of the affected areas and to minimize recurrences.

Brighter Image®’s technicians are available for properly cleaning efflorescence and evaluating what, if any, preventative steps may be applied to the job at hand.
